POLITICS PLACE FIREFIGHTERS AND GENERAL PUBLIC AT INCREASED RISK
LOS ANGELES COUNTY FIRE CHIEFS' AND US FOREST SERVICE ACTIONS HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS.
"Many government officials and members of the public find it hard to believe that fire chiefs and fire marshals would deceive the public in ways that could result in thousands of deaths. But I want to emphasize that in no way do I accuse the average firefighter, the rank and file, of being part of the criminal activities I am bringing to your attention. Those who have betrayed the public are the high level decision makers who are aware of endangerments to the public and, rather than warning the public of the dangers, have covered-up the problems. The LosAngeles Regional Planning Commission, inclusive of the LA County Fire Department, intially wrote a letter to the CPUC, September 28, 2006, advising against the proposed Alternative 2 Transmission Line Route. When the CPUC stunned t
hose in the know with its decision to approve Alternative 2, the Fire Deartment went silent. However, CPUC legal counsel informed residents that if the Fire Department requested it, they would move the lines. After pressure from residents by repeated calls to various fire chiefs, Fire Department Deputy Chief, Jesus Burcciaga, released a letter, April 5, 2007, requesting "obstruction marker spheres" be placed on the Lines around the Reservoir. Not one Chief would acknoweledge in writing that it would be safer for fire fighting aircraft and pilots to not have the lines around the Reservoir at all. Off the record, they would say that "common sense" says it would be safer, but when asked, would not say so in writing. The opportunity to keep lines away from the Reservoir was in their grasp. Why did they wash their hands of it, putting communities and firefighters at increased risk?
